Acuity Advisors use their software track record and cross-border M&A experience to secure the business sale of Intelligent Retail to Australian-based 3Q Holdings
Founded in 2004, Newbury based Intelligent Retail was the first company to design a multi-channel EPOS system specifically around the needs of the independent retailers. The company’s award-winning “Connect” software is used today by around 600 customers throughout the UK and Ireland and provides retailers with both a comprehensive in-store and online solution. Backed by in-house creative design, software development expertise and online marketing teams, Intelligent Retail’s technology features seamless integration into leading online marketplaces, including eBay and Amazon which allows retailers to rapidly develop an effective web channel.
“The team at Acuity started by describing our business in a fresh and clear way that certainly proved attractive to potential acquirers. From there the process was clean and efficient. The Acuity team were always on hand when we needed advice.” says David Mackley, managing director of Intelligent Retail. “I can recommend partnering with Acuity as you work alongside their partners on a day-by-day basis. We received the quality of service that goes with this approach, as well as quickly generating a teamed approach to the project which ultimately underpinned our success.”
The business sale will provide 3Q with market-leading multichannel retail technology, complement the company’s Island Pacific omni-channel and mobile solutions, and provide a channel for 3Q to address the smaller Australian and New Zealand independent retail market. In addition, 3Q aims to expand the Intelligent Retail business into international markets, including North America and Asia, while at the same time using the acquisition to strengthen the group’s successful presence in the UK.
“We have enjoyed working with Intelligent Retail supporting them through the process,” says Acuity’s Richard Baker. “Our systematic approach to business sale ensured we identified 3Q as a potential acquirer early on in the process and were able to articulate the value of buying Intelligent Retail. Being a cross-border transaction presented its challenges which we were able to overcome with careful planning and tight coordination”.
