Acuity Advisors secure the cross-border sale of Signal Processing Devices AB to e2v Technologies plc

Technology corporate finance boutique, Acuity Advisors, has secured the cross-border sale of Signal Processing Devices AB (“SP Devices”), a leader in the design and development of high performance analogue-to-digital processing technology to e2v for up to US$18 million. The sale of SP Devices enables e2v to continue to build a signal chain solutions business to accelerate its growth ambitions across key sectors in its Semiconductor Division.

SP Devices was established by a team from Linköping University, Sweden and provides high performance sub-system solutions for analogue to digital conversion applications.  These are used by customers including leading original equipment manufacturers across a number of sectors, spanning industrial test & measurement, healthcare, communications and science.  It also brings proven patented technology in software and board level sub-systems and services, complementing and enhancing e2v’s broadband data converter business.

Tomas Wolf , SP Devices’ CEO, commented: “The deal itself was very well executed – Acuity ensured open communication throughout and were able to access senior people within an appropriate international pool of buyers. From the start we had a professional working relationship where Acuity demonstrated a deep understanding of our technology. We definitely benefited from Acuity’s strategic thinking and their determination to get the deal done.”

Ian Lambert , e2v’s Director of M&A and Strategy, commented: “We found Acuity to be practical, and insightful at all the right times throughout the process. Their ability to articulate a complex technical proposition, then identify and engage with e2v at an appropriate level was immensely helpful and certainly helped us reach completion expeditiously.”

Matthew Byatt, partner at Acuity Advisors, who led the process, commented: “It has been a pleasure to work with Tomas and and his team on this stand-out cross-border transaction. I am delighted that we have delivered a strategic value for the business which reflects the hard work, ingenuity and commitment of all those at SP Devices.”

Acuity has a strong corporate advisory track record in the semiconductor space, having previously advised businesses including Jennic, Cambridge Silicon Radio and Cognovo.  The sale also represents Acuity’s fourth client in Sweden in the past two years. Legal support to SP Devices was provided by Törngren Magnell.
