Pluralsight, the Utah-based enterprise technology skills platform, has purchased developer productivity pioneer GitPrime for $170 million in cash.
With subscription-based video training courses and skill assessments, Pluralsight helps enterprises upskill software developers and other technical professionals. GitPrime, on the other hand, has created organisational tools that represent a new way of measuring and communicating coding productivity by connecting to major code repositories such as GitHub, to aggregate data which is then presented as a report for analysis.
The company has grown rapidly since it was founded in 2015, and has an impressive customer base including the likes of Adobe, Atlassian, and Disney.
Integrated into Pluralsight, GitPrime’s technology will now help the platform’s customers to better measure the effectiveness of coding education by making an accurate assessment of what developers have learnt:
“The integration of GitPrime with our leading technology skills platform is a win for our customers and will greatly expand the Pluralsight platform to provide even more value to technology leaders and developers,” said Aaron Skonnard, co-founder and CEO of Pluralsight, in a statement. “The GitPrime team has built something incredible that solves a long-standing problem. I’m excited to welcome them to Pluralsight and integrate their platform so that technology leaders can more fully control their tech-driven futures.”
As technological development gathers pace, the shelf life of technical skills has become shorter than ever before, placing renewed importance on continued education, which has become a top priority particularly in industries like enterprise software that need staff to stay ahead of the curve in order to remain competitive.
As these skills continue to evolve, the infrastructure for learning is also changing, with a wave of new startups and acquisition activity now helping to build new educational platforms that can effectively deliver ongoing learning in an enterprise context.
